डॉ. एस.राधाकृष्णन की 125 वां जयंती 1888-1975 125th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF DR. S. RADHAKRISHNAN 1888-1975 Born on 5th September, 1888, at Tiruttani near Madras, Dr.Radhakrishnan was educated at Tirupati, Vellore and Madras. He started his career as an Assistant Professor of Philosophy in Presidency College. He served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Andhra and Banaras Hindu Universities. He became the first Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962 and President of India from 1962 to 1967. The Daily Telegraph of London paid a remarkable tribute to him on June, 1963 on the occasion of his visit to London, “No living Head of State in the world approaches his intellectual distinction. In his writings he has been the outstanding interpreter to the West, of the thoughts of the East concerning the ultimate mystery of man.” Radhakrishnan, giving clarion call for freedom stated, “India is not a subject to be administered but a nation seeking its soul.” He was awarded with the Bharat Ratna in 1954. He believed that “Teachers should be the best minds in the country.” Since 1962, his birthday 5th September is celebrated in India as “Teacher’s Day.” The Philosopher, educationist and diplomat left the earthly abode on 17th of April 1975. The Government of India released Commemorative Coin on the occasion of 125th Birth anniversary of Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on 4th September 2015.
