Dhanteras – Silver Souvenir Coin
Executed in a refined devotional style, this exquisite painting depicts Goddess Lakshmi the deity of wealth, fortune, and spiritual abundance seated in classical symmetry. The divine figure is framed by an ornate architectural arch (prabhavali) adorned with gold floral arabesques, set against a peaceful landscape of rolling hills and calm waters. Seated gracefully upon a fully bloomed pink lotus (padmasana), the Goddess embodies purity and divine consciousness, rising untainted above worldly attachments.
The work incorporates traditional Gaja Lakshmi iconography, featuring two majestic white elephants standing in the waters on either side. These royal guardians symbolize sovereignty, divine strength, and auspiciousness. In her four hands, the Goddess holds pink lotuses representing spiritual elevation, while her lower right hand offers the Abhaya Mudra, a gesture conferring fearlessness and divine protection. From the golden pot (kalasha) held in her left hand, a continuous shower of gold coins flows into a vessel below, visually conveying material prosperity and endless grace.
Through a delicate watercolor palette, the artist masterfully contrasts the warm, vibrant crimson of the drapery with the serene turquoise and emerald hues of the natural surroundings. Intricate line work seen in the jewellery, crown, and decorative border evokes the timeless elegance of classic Indian miniature traditions, making this piece both a spiritual visual and a celebrated artistic creation.
