Jagadguru Sri Satyapramoda Tirtha Sripadangalavaru, the 41st successor in this revered lineage, exemplified a harmonious blend of ancient wisdom and contemporary relevance. Born as Gururajacharya Guttal in 1918 in Dharwad, into a family deeply rooted in spiritual and scholarly traditions, Sri Satyapramoda Tirtha embraced Sannyasa at the age of 30. He received Diksha from his guru, Sri Satyabhigna Tirtha Swamiji, on 2nd February 1948. Renowned for his profound mastery of Vedic literature, Dvaita Vedanta, Nyaya, Vyakarana, Tarka, and Sahitya. His collections of rare manuscripts research and their publication is a service to the Indian traditional Vedic culture. The then President of India, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, met His Holiness at Tirumala Tirupati and was deeply impressed by Swamiji’s outstanding scholarship and spiritual presence.
He presided over the great institution, Sri Uttaradi Matha, for 50 long years and performed the daily Pooja of Sri Moola Rama along with Moola Sita, the chief deities of the Matha. Under his guidance, Sri Uttaradi Math initiated and supported a wide array of social welfare projects, including: A call for the Gohatya Nishedha Andolana (Anti-Cow Slaughter Movement) in 1952, Arrangement of Samuhika Vivaha (mass marriages) for economically disadvantaged families, Arrangement of Samuhika Upanayana Samskara (mass sacred thread ceremonies) for underprivileged boys, Establishment of the Jaya Satyapramoda Nidhi, a scholarship fund providing financial assistance for modern education while preserving traditional Indian and Vedic values.
He was the founder of Shri Jayateertha Vidyapeetha in Bangalore, a premier institution dedicated to the vibrant continuity of the Dvaita philosophical tradition. This divine institution is dedicated to the pursuit of truth (Satya), the preservation of Vedic knowledge (Veda Samrakshana), and the upliftment of society (Loka Kalyana), standing as a beacon of guidance in both spiritual and worldly realms.
