125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee | Rs. 125 Proof Coin | 3-Fold Pack

Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee was born in Kolkata on 06 July, 1901 in a prestigious educationist family. His father Sir Ashutosh Mookerjee was the Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University. A brilliant scholar in the field of education, Dr. Mookerjee studied at Presidency College and Calcutta University and law education from Lincoln’s Inn in England.

Inspired by the freedom struggle, he entered public life and later served as the president of the All India Hindu Mahasabha. As a member of the Constituent Assembly, he played a significant role in minority rights, linguistic inclusivity and federal structure. In 1951, he established the Bharatiya Jana Sangh based on the ideology of nationalism, cultural unity and a united India.

Dr. Mookerjee strongly opposed the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. He clarified the speculation of Indian unity by raising the slogan One Nation, One Constitution. While struggling over this issue, he died mysteriously on 23 June, 1953.

As an educationist and nation builder, he made remarkable contributions to education, industry and linguistic inclusivity in South India. His approach was rooted in ideas like integral humanism and Antyodaya, which were later expanded upon by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.

Dr. Mookerjee’s thoughtfulness, fearlessness and foresight place him among India’s most inspiring nation builders. Even today, his thoughts and sacrifices inspire the direction and ideology of the country.
