The National Defence Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla, Pune, stands as a premier global defense institution, conceived post World War II to unite future Army, Navy, and Air Force officers into a potent joint force. From its inception in 1949 in Dehradun to its current stature in Pune, NDA has evolved significantly. Inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1955, the Academy has become a symbol of integration and jointmanship among the three Defense Services, producing leaders not only in the military but also in diverse fields like science, technology, arts, literature, and sports.
Over seven decades, NDA has garnered rare distinction, with alumni contributing selflessly in peace and war. This cradle of military leadership has 38,000 alumni upholding the glorious martial traditions including 3 Param Vir Chakra ,12 Ashok Chakra, 32 Maha Vir Chakra , 45 Kirti Chakra , 152 Shaurya Chakra and 163 Vir Chakra.
In the 75 years of the NDA’s illustrious history, the induction of female cadets in 2022 marks a significant milestone.
On 16 January 2024, NDA will be completing 75 glorious years in service to the nation. It remains committed to maintain the highest traditions and toughest standards of its training and rededicates its unflinching commitment to the nation on this momentous occasion.
