Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) –A Decade of Safe Motherhood
Launched in 2016, the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) reflects India’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every pregnant woman receives quality antenatal care and timely specialist support during pregnancy.
The programme is organized on the 9th day of every month as a dedicated day for comprehensive antenatal care services, enabling early identification and management of high-risk pregnancies and strengthening the journey towards safe motherhood. Over the past decade, PMSMA has evolved into a nationwide movement that has brought quality antenatal services closer to women and strengthened the continuum of care for mothers and newborns across the country
The commemorative coin of Rs. 75 embodies care, protection and hope. The number “9” represents both the fixed day of service delivery under PMSMA and the nine months of pregnancy, reflecting the programme’s commitment to supporting women throughout their maternal journey. The coin pays tribute to the resilience of mothers and the dedication of doctors, nurses, ANMs, ASHAs and healthcare workers who work tirelessly to safeguard two lives at a time.
The Government of India proudly releases this commemorative coin of Rs .75 marking ten years of PMSMA. The coin honours a decade of collective commitment towards safe motherhood and celebrates the efforts of all stakeholders who continue to make motherhood safer and provide every newborn a healthier start to life.
