Yogacharya
Srimat Swami Pranavanandaji Maharaj was born as Binode on January 29th,1896 at Bajitpur, about 200 miles from Calcutta, under the Bengal Presidency. He received initiation (Diksha) from the spiritual master yogi Swami Gambhirnathji in October 1913 at Gorakhpur. Born at the cusp of a great social and National reawakening process, young Binode realized the need to personify the traditional austerity of an ascetic (Samnyasa) without renouncing the world of action (Karma). His precocious religious determination shaped his ideas
about the need of reform, reinvigorate and protect the Hindu ideals and tradition. He embodied these precepts as the founding tenets of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, an institution that, He divinely ordained, “must appear before the country with a new message for the age”. The sangha named after India “Bharat” draws its inspiration from the deep-seated quest of “Guru
Maharaj” to revitalize the disintegrated masses of this great ancient land and reorganize them as a powerful Nationality, vibrant in spirit and rich in its thought and action.
